The Process
Step1 - What do we know?
As a team, you will begin by answering the following questions.
You will need to each do your own research in order to answer the questions listed above. After a given amount of time, you will come together to share your findings and agree on a common answer.
Step 2 - What will we cover?
Now it is time to begin brainstorming with your group as to what issue you will be addressing and developing a plan for public awareness. Below is a link to a graphic organizer that will be used for this purpose.

Step 3 - Roles
Next, within your group, you will be assigning the roles of literary expert, chief researcher analyst, media expert, and advertising expert within your team of four. Each student will meet with an expert team (media team, advertising team, etc.) to research and determine the importance and responsibilities of each role. All four students will come together to create the final product, including: writing a script/brochure, filming/photographing, editing, and finally publishing the PSA using Movie Maker, Microsoft Word, or Microsoft Publisher.
Literary Expert:
You will be finding some children's books or novels that share a common theme that relates to the issue you have chosen for your PSA/brochure. In doing so, you will be collecting examples of how this issue affects the characters and how each one was able deal with or overcome the issue. Be sure to use some of your findings in deciding how to treat the issues that your group is addressing.

This expert group will be divided into to groups: those whom are creating an infomercial and those whom are creating a brochure.
Depending on your home group's choice of presentation, you will conduct research on how to use Movie Maker in creating a video, or how to create a brochure using either Microsoft Word or Publisher. Each person in your expert team is responsible for conducting their own research. You will then share within your expert group prior to returning to your home group. This is the person who will be the technical expert for each group's final product.

You will conduct research as to what a public service announcement is and take notes. Next, you will then find two examples of public service announcements and note the following for each example:
You will show the sample public service announcements to the group along with your answers to the questions listed. Although this will be your area of expertise, you must be open to any comments or additional thoughts that might be offered up by any member of your group.
Step 4 - Storyboard/Outline
Utilize the following storyboard template to help guide your screenplay.

Step 5 - Script
Your group will work together to write a script. Please keep in mind that your audience that you are trying to reach. Make sure that your script not only reaches your intended audience, but that it is persuasive in nature.
Once you have finished your script, you are required to share it with Mrs. Anderson prior to moving forward. Once it is approved, you will be able to move into the creative publication or video portion.
Step 6 - What do you need?
As a group, and according to your script, you must decide what props you will need in filming your PSA. You will need approval from Mrs. Anderson. Make sure you create a list of who is going to be responsible for what as you will need to have all of your props ready prior to filming or taking pictures.
For those who are creating a brochure, you will need to decide on what images and/or graphics you will need to complete your brochure. This may include taking pictures with your group. If this is the case, you will need to discus your plan with Mrs. Anderson and schedule use of the classroom camera.

Step 7- Production
All group members will required to perform in the production of the public service announcement. We will only take one day for filming, so make sure you are prepared. This will include rehearsing your script so that you are able to perform your individual parts without reading from the script. As I have always advised, you may want to practice your own lines in the mirror so that you are aware of how you will look and sound.
During the the class period following filming, you will work with your group to edit and polish your video. The end of your video should include a brief citation of all of your sources used.
You may use the resources found on our classroom Symbaloo to format all of your sources cited.
Step 8 - Publish and Review
As a class, we will share and review all of the PSAs before you individually complete a peer scoring guide that will be turned in to Mrs. Anderson. All videos will be published on the Peer Evaluation Blog site. From here, each of you will be responsible for evaluating each video following the given format.
3-2-1 Reflection Guide
Finally, you will personally reflect on the project using the reflection template.
